Oscar Pistorius - Nedbank brand ambassador

Flying the Nedbank flag – Brand Ambassadors unveiled
In keeping with Nedbank’s vision of becoming the most highly rated and respected bank in Southern Africa , the bank has formed an association with three well-known and respected South African sporting stars.

Each of the individuals selected to represent Nedbank possesses and demonstrates the highest integrity and credibility and all are regarded as South African role models in their respective activities and communities, as well as by the general public.

Through the bank’s extensive investment in sporting sponsorships, Nedbank has become synonymous with a number of sporting properties, most notably sport for the disabled, women’s golf, and road running.

The exposure gained through these sponsorships contributes to the goodwill and awareness in the minds of the public, while also building Nedbank’s reputation as a bank that cares and makes a positive contribution to the communities in which it operates.

While the Nedbank sponsorship policy does not extend to the sponsorship of individuals, the involvement in the chosen sports creates a further opportunity to enhance the bank’s reputation through the appointment of brand ambassadors. Independent sporting brand ambassadors are selected for their proven ability to display the values of honesty, empathy and humanity – all characteristics of the Nedbank brand.

In addition to Ashleigh Simon (women’s golf) and Hendrick Ramaala (road running), Oscar Pistorius has been selected as a Nedbank brand ambassador.

Oscar Pistorius
Dubbed the fastest man on no legs, Oscar set the 2007 Nedbank National Championships for the Physically Disabled alight with his haul of three world records in as many days. Oscar has redefined sport for the disabled and has undertaken to continue the pursuit of his dream to compete at the able-bodied Olympic Games in 2008. The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) recent finding that Oscar’s ‘blades’ give him an unfair advantage over his able-bodied competitors is a setback but not necessarily the end of the dream.

Despite the ruling, Oscar has expressed a desire to compete at the 2008 Beijing Paralympic games with a view to improve on his already impressive record.

Oscar’s determination and commitment to ‘Make Things Happen’ are an inspiration to athletes and non-athletes alike. Showing great strength in the face of adversity make Oscar an inspiration and a worthy Nedbank brand ambassador.

Oscar will be in action at the Nedbank National Championships for the Physically Disabled in Stellenbosch from 24 to 28 March 2008. This year’s event will be the last opportunity to see all South African Paralympic hopefuls in action before the announcement of the SA Paralympic team at the end of the Championships.
